Amrax, the hospital scanned by phone
A 60,000 square metre hospital in southern Germany has been mapped with smartphones, while it kept running.
That job comes from Metaroom by Amrax, a company from Puch bei Hallein near Salzburg that announced a new round on 3 November. The amount is only described as mid seven figures. The aws Gründungsfonds of Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) and SymbiaVC led, joined by existing investor ArborEleven Ventures and several business angels.
The product is simple to describe. You walk through a room with an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro. Minutes later there is a 3D model and a 2D floor plan, which export in more than 40 formats into planning tools such as Bluebeam, Graphisoft and DDScad. The company claims accuracy of up to 99%. It is going after manual measuring: architects, builders, facility managers, energy consultants.
By its own count it has more than 30,000 users and more than 100,000 models. Since launching in 2020 it has become active in more than 175 countries.
There is also a second business. Industrial companies build the scanning into their own planning and sales processes as OEM partners, and part of the money goes there.
The investor mix is the interesting part. SymbiaVC, from Imst in Tirol, describes itself as venture capital for wood industry innovators and brings an industrial network alongside the money. Senior investment manager Alex Burger calls spatial intelligence a key to digitising construction, trades and industry.
Martin Huber, the CEO, and Hans Schlick are the founders. The round goes into product development, sales and partnerships in the DACH region and abroad.
